About me

Mag. Roland König

Clinical Psychologist · Health Psychologist
Psychotherapist (Hypnosis Psychotherapy)
registered in Austria · practice near Vienna

My strength is empathy with the people I work with.

People in stressful life situations need a safe setting, professional clarity and a path that suits their personal situation. That is exactly what I take time for in my practice.

My psychological and psychotherapeutic qualifications form the basis of my work. Experience in hospitals, social institutions and business also helps me to understand different living and working environments.

How I work

Working together towards your goals within a therapeutic setting

In the initial consultation, we get to know each other, clarify what brings you here and agree on a realistic goal for therapy. You can take your time to find out whether you feel in good hands with me.

Depending on what brings you here and on what we agree together, I work with methods including behavioural techniques, talking therapy, hypnosis and biofeedback. We decide individually and transparently which method makes sense. No particular course or outcome can be promised.

Career

Psychology, psychotherapy, hypnosis and experience from different walks of life

My professional path combines many years of therapeutic practice with experience in social institutions, healthcare, culture, services and technology. This range of experience helps me to understand very different life paths and working lives, because I know many of them first-hand.

  1. 1988–1990

    Tourism college and hotel industry

Training at the tourism college (Fremdenverkehrskolleg) in Bad Gleichenberg. Afterwards, I worked as a receptionist at what was then the luxury Hotel Daniel.

  2. 1991–1997

Vereinigte Bühnen Graz and vocal training

From 1991 to 1996, I worked at the Vereinigte Bühnen Graz – at the Graz Opera and the Schauspielhaus theatre – as an actor, singer and extra. From 1994 to 1997, I also trained in speech and classical singing. During my psychology studies, I also worked as a driving instructor to finance my studies.

  3. 1992–1999

Psychology studies, Italy and academic degrees

From 1992 to 1999, I studied psychology in Graz. While writing my diploma thesis in Italy, I also worked there as an SQL programmer. I then graduated with the degree of Mag. rer. nat. (Psychology, University of Graz). My focus areas included work and organisational psychology, survey research and environmental psychology. After graduating, I obtained the Italian academic title Dottore in Psicologia in Bolzano (an academic title, not a doctorate); the field of study was Psicologia del lavoro e delle organizzazioni.

  4. 1999–2004

    Microsoft in Munich and Vienna

In 1999, I completed the Microsoft Support Academy in Munich and passed nine Microsoft certification exams, qualifying as a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer + Internet (MCSE+I) – a certification covering the planning, implementation and maintenance of complex network, intranet and internet solutions. I first worked as a Support Engineer at Microsoft in Germany, then as a Technical Account Manager at Microsoft in Vienna. There I was the central point of contact for major Austrian customers: I escalated complex support cases within Microsoft worldwide, solved them myself wherever possible, or organised additional technical support from other countries. I saw myself as a reliable advocate for my major customers within an international company.

  5. 2003–2004

Telephone counselling and first steps towards psychotherapy

Alongside my work at Microsoft, I began to deepen my psychological training in practice. At the telephone counselling service (Telefonseelsorge) of the Archdiocese of Vienna, I worked in crisis intervention and counselling, and at the same time began further training with a view to psychotherapy. The specialist training in hypnosis psychotherapy followed from 2009.

  6. November 2004–October 2005

    A year of reorientation

My work was going well and was highly valued. At the same time, I increasingly missed a deeper sense of meaning. I realised that I wanted to use my abilities to work more directly with people. So I took a year off in the Canary Islands – without computers or newspapers, but with windsurfing, distance and plenty of time to reorient myself. Afterwards, I knew that I would continue my psychological training in practice and pursue the path into psychotherapy.

  7. November 2005–2010

    Founded and ran SYSDES

In November 2005, I founded SYSDES, a bespoke software and web design company, and ran it until 2010. In this role I combined psychological understanding with technical and organisational skills.

  8. 2008–2010

    Clinical psychology practice in institutions

I gained further experience at the child protection centre “die Möwe”, at the Lichtblick association, at the pain clinic of the Waldsanatorium Perchtoldsdorf, which at the time belonged to the Dr. Dr. Wagner group, and in the oncology department of SMZ Ost/Donauspital in Vienna.

  9. From 2009 · seven years

    Hypnosis psychotherapy (Hypnosepsychotherapie)

In 2009, I completed the psychotherapeutic propaedeutic course at HOPP in Vienna and began the specialist training in hypnosis psychotherapy (Hypnosepsychotherapie) at ÖGATAP – the Austrian Society for Applied Depth Psychology and General Psychotherapy. This seven-year training and my many years of practical experience with hypnosis remain a central focus of my work today. Hypnosis psychotherapy is a method grounded in depth psychology and combines psychotherapeutic conversation with therapeutic trance.

  10. 31 January 2010

    Clinical psychologist and health psychologist

Completion of the theoretical and practical training as a clinical psychologist and health psychologist.

  11. Since 2011

    Private practice

In 2011, I opened my private practice in Baden bei Wien, near Vienna. Since then, I have worked there as a clinical psychologist and health psychologist, and since 2016 also as a psychotherapist (hypnosis psychotherapy), registered in Austria.

  12. 2012–2015 · 2022

    Psychological advice on Radio SOL

From 2012 to 2015, I answered listeners’ psychological questions on Radio SOL in the regular programme “Life Matters – Der Radiotalk zum Mitmachen!” (a call-in radio talk show). In 2022, my hypnosis recording “Hypnose gegen Angst” (Hypnosis for Anxiety) was also part of the live programme of the “Konferenz der Menschen” on Radio SOL.

  13. 2020–2021

    Books and CD

My books and CD (all in German) are published by Springer and TRIAS. In 2020, “Der kleine Anti-Burnout-Coach” (The Little Anti-Burnout Coach), TRIAS, and “Schnelle Hilfe bei Burnout” (Quick Help with Burnout), Springer essentials, were published. In 2021, “Hypnose gegen Angst” (Hypnosis for Anxiety) followed, published by TRIAS on CD and digitally – including on Audible, Spotify, Apple and Google services and other audio platforms.

    Founded TimeInvoicer

My second passion, software development, has stayed with me throughout these years. With TimeInvoicer, psychology and software development come together for me today: I develop software tailored to the needs of psychologists, psychotherapists, other sole traders and small teams. TimeInvoicer runs entirely on a phone or tablet; if you wish, all data stays on your own device.
